  • Integration aimed at advancing Toyota’s

Mobility 3.0 concept.

Toyota Blockchain Lab recently referenced Ethereum’s ERC-4337 standard in its work on integrating mobility into the public blockchain. The published work, “How to Introduce Mobility into the Public Blockchain,” outlines how this integration can improve programmability and account management for mobility applications.

Integrating MOA and Ethereum ERC-4337

Toyota Blockchain Lab introduced the Toyota Mobility Concept in April 2023, intending to integrate mobility with social systems in “Mobility 3.0.” By utilizing public blockchains designed to share states with a large number of people, Toyota aims to advance its mobility concept. A critical component of this integration is the use of a smart account on the blockchain, referred to as a Mobility-Oriented Account (MOA).

Benefits of ERC-4337

ERC-4337 offers several benefits that address traditional challenges associated with blockchain technology, such as the loss of private keys and limited functionality. Account Abstraction, a unique aspect of ERC-4337, creates a distinction between the authentication process and key management. This means that the loss of a private key does not result in the loss of the account itself, enabling safer and more flexible account management.

Additionally, ERC-4337 uses the CREATE2 opcode defined in EIP-1014, which allows the deterministic setting of an address before the account is deployed. This feature enhances the programmability and management of blockchain-based accounts, making them more adaptable to the needs of mobility applications.

Addressing Challenges with ERC-4337

By integrating ERC-4337, Toyota aims to mitigate challenges such as the loss of private keys and accounts, limited functionality, and ensuring better security and flexibility in account management. This approach aligns with Toyota’s vision of using public blockchains to realize the full potential of Mobility 3.0, creating a more connected and efficient system for managing mobility data and applications.
