Telegram, a crypto-friendly communications platform, has launched a new browser and mini-app store as part of its latest update. This in-app browser supports decentralized websites known as TON Sites, available across all mobile and native desktop apps. This integration aims to make Web3 technology immediately accessible to Telegram’s nearly one billion monthly users.

The browser allows seamless switching between websites and messaging within the Telegram app, offering users a cohesive experience. According to Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov, this update merges communication with news consumption, enhancing the platform’s overall functionality.

Telegram users can now also send Stars, a unit of the mini-app payment system, to friends. The Mini App store features enhanced search options, app previews, and the ability to share mini-apps within Stories, further improving user interaction and engagement.

Durov initially announced plans for these updates on July 19, noting the rapid adoption of games on Telegram. For instance, the web3 tap-to-earn game Catizen has amassed $16 million in in-app purchases since its launch, contributing to the platform’s growth.

Catizen and another top game, Hamster Kombat, utilize The Open Network’s native cryptocurrency, Toncoin (TON). Toncoin has seen significant growth, trading at $6.79 after a 1.05% increase in the past 24 hours, reflecting its expanding adoption within the Telegram ecosystem.
