LayerZero Labs is partnering with Initia Labs to develop an interoperability standard for Cosmos, the two blockchain platforms announced on Wednesday. This new standard will allow developers to leverage any LayerZero-supported chain to extend both existing and new dApps to and from Cosmos chains.

Omnichain interoperability, facilitated by LayerZero, enables blockchains, oracles, bridges, and other networks within the ecosystem to communicate. This allows a single transaction to span multiple blockchains without user intervention. For example, a transaction could move from Cosmos to Solana and then to Ethereum, requiring only one user-signed transaction.

LayerZero’s technology has facilitated more than 135 million cross-chain messages across over 80 blockchain networks, with more than 200 applications using the network for messaging. This integration with the Cosmos SDK supports the development of tailor-made blockchains, or appchains, marking a significant step towards full omnichain interoperability.
