Former FTX executive Ryan Salame requests a delay in his prison reporting date due to medical complications from a dog attack.

Points

  • Ryan Salame requests a 45-day delay for medical treatment.
  • Salame was attacked by a German Shepherd, requiring urgent surgery.
  • Salame pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to FTX.

Lawyers for former FTX executive Ryan Salame have requested a delay in his prison reporting date due to medical complications resulting from a dog bite incident. Salame, previously the co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to criminal charges last year.

Salame was set to appear for his sentencing on August 29, but his lawyers have asked for the date to be pushed to October 13. According to the filing submitted to Judge Lewis Kaplan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Salame was mauled by a German Shepherd while visiting a friend’s home on June 29.

The lawyers’ letter, parts of which were redacted, indicated that Salame saw a doctor on July 3 and was evaluated for a dog-bite injury to the face. The physician’s letter, included in the court filing, recommended urgent surgery for Salame’s injuries, leading to the request for a delay in his prison reporting date.

Salame pled guilty to conspiring to make unlawful political contributions and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business. He worked closely with former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, who was sentenced in March to nearly 25 years in prison following a criminal fraud trial.

As Salame seeks medical treatment, his request highlights the complications and personal challenges that can arise even after legal proceedings conclude. The court’s decision on the delay will determine whether Salame can address his medical needs before serving his sentence.
